Jester Ohms

Jester is the main protagonist of Overarch Lockout, and an antagonist/deurotagonist in Overarch Binary. For the college student Jester, everything is going great. Despite all the difficulties of life as a Basic, he's on track to completing his first semester at Humblenook University. While there, he meets a (currently unnamed) Cat-Type Alt, and as time passes, finds himself in love. A couple weeks before the end of the semester, he books a restaurant, with the plan to ask the Cat-Type out. He fails to work up the courage, though, and eats at the restaurant alone. While leaving, the restaurant, he witnesses a man forcing himself upon a woman in a dark alleyway. He attempts to intervene, and finds himself bleeding out next to the woman, subject to a bullet through his heart. When he came to, he was in the afterlife, surrounded by demons. And he was one of them, now. They explained that, while he was out, it was discovered that he was to be the new "Residential Shepard," a demon who lives in the mortal world and serves as a conduit for the true-born demons.Reawakening in that same alley, five years later, he quickly realizes nobody was affected by his death. After a while, he began working on an AI simulation to hide away from the real world in, as Carlimander, a simple cat living in a town surrounded by woods. But when he uses his demonic powers to bring more "life" to the AI, he unwittingly causes the gruesome deaths of hundreds of people, trapping their souls in endless cycles of reliving their deaths. He was no longer capable of visiting this world without being mentally assaulted by horrific images of those he murdered. With no choice but to abandon the game, he focuses on building connections with those around him and slowly begins to love his life.Years later, he dies for the final time. It had happened a couple times before, but this time was the last. Unfortunately he couldn't be put in heaven because all the souls he brought there would be uncomfortable with him around. He couldn't be put in the underworld though, because he wasn't bad enough. If he wandered the surface of the planet as a ghost, he may be able to possess a new body, and ruin more lives. So the demons and angels trapped his soul in the simulation, mistaking it to be a paradise, and hid his demonic powers in a prototype Carlimander avatar left out of bounds. They didn't think to put him in his avatar, though, so Carli remained a seperate entity. In Overarch Binary, Jester begins as a clear antagonist. Jester still has control over the code that contains himself, making himself invisible to the AI and the souls. Carli, however, had enough demonic power rub off on him from his time as an avatar that he could still see Jester. Jester realized that, in order to actually have influence over this world, he would have to attempt to puppeter Carli. So he psychologically abused and manipulated Carli into doing as he says. When Carli revolts, however, Jester realizes the cat to be a real person, an evolved AI, with real emotions and his own views. Jester realizes his mistakes and reforms, and stays so for the rest of the show.

The Cyclebreaker

Barely anything is known about The Cyclebreaker. He's said to be the first Jester. Across all universes amd timelines. They say he blames the failure of his relationship for everything that went wrong. And now he travels between realities, testing increasingly irrational plans to keep everything together. He's caused millions of deaths, driven insane by love and commitment. If encountered, do not interact.

Carlimander

Carli is a supporting character in Overarch Lockout, and the protagonist of Overarch Binary.Carli lives in Jester's AI world. Originally the Avatar that Jester would use to live in the simulation, the more Jester was in the simulation, the more demonic energy rubbed off onto Carli. Eventually, Carli grew to be a true concious lifeform, forming seperate life goals and a seperate personality from Jester.Carli is a sweetheart, and wants nothing more than a quiet life and to open his own confectionery. Obviously, as with all things in Overarch. this will likely never happen. The issue with Carli as a character is that he's intentionally a blank-slate. More often then not, when a character splinters from their own universe, that character runs into a Carli, making that Carli splinter as well, and that Carli's story truly begins.
